Among the most important and known civil architecture located in Calabria, we
present one of the most evocative and representative of the history of the
region: the Castello Aragonese di Reggio Calabria. This is certainly the
main fortification of the city, situated on the homonymous piazza Castello and
along with the Bronze Statues, is considered the symbol of the city. This
extraordinary castle from 1956 accommodates the important Center of the National
Institute of Geophysics, one of the most important in Italy. The castle is
of course on a more elevated than the core main housing of the city, situated on
a hill in a panoramic position, the walls are still perfectly preserved. Over
the centuries, however, the walls have been several collapses in particular due
to a lack of conservative care. Today's amazing how the good work of
protecting the region, province and the municipality of Reggio Calabria, led to
his castle in its former glory, Ripert to the public in 2004 is today a very
important venue. Periodically fact within the halls are organized exhibitions of
art and antiques, as well as meetings of art and culture, concerts, conferences
and forums. You should visit it in, remembering that each day we organize
tours free and paid.
